Ghana To Attract World Class Technology Park
Key players in ICT have met
in Accra, Ghana's capital, to
discuss the road map to the
establishment of a world
class technology park, to
serve the needs of the
country and fellow West
Africa states.
The project, which will be the biggest in
Africa, is the by-product of Ghana's solid
democratic credentials and economic stability,
coupled with the giant strides it has made
in the ICT sector, making the country the hub
of investment and the gateway to West
Africa.
Ghana is earmarked to be the beneficiary of
the technology park with resources to meet
the needs of all sectors of development including
students under the patronage of Life
for Africa, a non-profit organisation.
The organisation is spearheaded by
renowned Dr Kingsley Fletcher, who is the
Suapolor (a traditional authority or chief) of
the Se (Shai) Traditional Area under the stool
name Nene Adamtey I.
The initial roundtable on the project attracted
experts from Ghana, the USA, China, Hong
Kong, Turkey, Rwanda, Kenya and Europe.
Dr Sandra Johnson, Vice President of Life
for Africa and Senior Technical Staff member
of IBM Corporation technology, which is expected
to be the major contributor to the
project told CIO Business World that the establishment
of the park slated for Shai Traditional
Area will facilitate growth in Ghana's
economy and the West African Sub Region.
She said the park would also explore the
creativity of the youth and improve the quality
of life of the people.
Dr Johnson said the stakeholders would take
into consideration the provision of services
that cover a broader spectrum of services.
